Report<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>We had a loss for the month of August.\u00a0 Regular giving is down, but our expenses have been lower as<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Profit YTD<\/strong> as of August 2019 FYE\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $2,461<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Loss for Month<\/strong> of August 2019\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ($1,910)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gail noted that the net profit YTD is still on the positive side, but we did not have a youth director or<\/p>\n<p>a maintenance person for some of that time.\u00a0 Otherwise it would have probably been negative. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gail also noted that all committees have been really good with their budgets.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No questions on Financial Report.\u00a0 Geoff Hendren made a motion to approve.\u00a0 Jan Olson seconded.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Approved<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gail advised council that the annual budget discussion\/review will be started the week of 9\/23.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff added that since we are now in the transition from Fiscal Year to Calendar Year, he would like to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 get a budget\/financial update out to the congregation (approximately November).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stewardship Campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wayne said that the financial update could be covered in the stewardship campaign.\u00a0 Right now we are \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 looking at a deficit for next year.\u00a0 \u201cAppeal Sunday\u201d for the stewardship campaign is scheduled for \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 November 17, 2019 (when the congregation turns in their pledge cards).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gail added that the deficit could be higher than projected because we are estimating at this point.\u00a0 We \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 won\u2019t have concrete numbers until December or January.\u00a0 Budget requests have already been sent out to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 all committees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff said that he still wants to give the congregation a \u201csnapshot\u201d of where we are (in November) as we \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 head into the calendar year.\u00a0 Geoff added that if this is done, the congregation needs to be aware that this \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is only a projection and that the actual numbers will be different.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wayne noted that the stewardship committee will be making presentations to different groups and at \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 select meetings before November 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0 (these are the Focus Groups).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Geoff thinks that we should keep the budget information included in the stewardship campaign.\u00a0 Gail \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 added that we will still have the Annual meeting in February and we will have accurate information at \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 that time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that the February 23, 2020 is the date we currently have planned for the Annual \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wayne advised that they are getting ready to print brochures for the Stewardship Campaign, and there \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 was a question about the official church logo. Pastor is going to follow up with Jill Templin to see where the boat with cross logo came from and if there are any copyright issues that need to be addressed. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 [Later confirmed that Randy Korus created the logo for LOL, so there are no copyright concerns]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Pastor\u2019s Report &amp; Worship Committee:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pastor\u2019s report is attached.\u00a0 Worship Committee did not meet this month.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jan asked why attendance might be going down?\u00a0 Pastor confirmed that August is always a fickle \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 month and that he feels like attendance is increasing this month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Buildings &amp; Grounds: <\/strong>See attached Team Reports file.\u00a0 Wayne added that Kate Pfaendtner will now be leading the B &amp; G group.\u00a0 Thank you Kate!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2019\">\n<li><strong>Youth: <\/strong>Youth Team will resume meeting in October 2019.\u00a0 Geoff noted that there is a transition team in place to assist Amy with any questions\/concerns.\u00a0 John said that he had a parent approach him and tell him that she was ecstatic because her kids now <em>want <\/em>to come to youth group\/church.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Stewardship: <\/strong>See Above<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Social Media: <\/strong>See attached Team Reports file.\u00a0 Sarah and Wayne have a meeting set up with someone local to see if he would be interested in taking over the LOL website design\/maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Life and Fellowship: <\/strong>See attached Team Reports file.\u00a0 Wayne noted that there were only 34 responses.\u00a0 He thinks we should send it out again.\u00a0 Jeff also asked Sarah to put together an annual calendar of the things that are being planned\u2014especially the things that happen every year (like the golf outing).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2019\">\n<li><strong>We Care: <\/strong>Pastor is continuing classes along with Drew Jaeger and they have their next team meeting on October 16, 2019.\u00a0 He also noted that a few new people have joined the team.\u00a0 November 2, 2019 will be an all-day training session for the team.\u00a0 They are trying to plan [quarterly] events.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Brokerage Account\u2014<\/strong>Jeff Jahnke would like to set up a LOL Brokerage account so that if someone \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gifts stock to the church, it can go into one account at a local bank we already have an account at \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (instead of having all different advisors).\u00a0 The council President, VP, and treasurers would be the signers \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 on the account.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wayne made a motion that Jeff Jahnke set up this brokerage account<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kristen Bjornstad seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Constitution Revisit:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff and Jan will set up a time to meet on the church constitution (to revisit and \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 have a guide for the future).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Sound System:\u00a0 <\/strong>Ryan Miller has been trying to find time to look into the sound system issues.\u00a0 Sarah \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 said that he can get to it in January and give an update in February 2020.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Employees on Council:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff wanted to know what the group thinks about employees of the church \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 serving on council.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin believes that having separation of these two is good.\u00a0 Jan suggested \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 putting guidelines into the constitution that require an employee (or spouse of an employee) to abstain \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 from voting on issues in their area\/spouses area.\u00a0 Jeff feels that and employee of the church should not \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 serve on council, but their spouse would be OK (with voting limitations).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff made a motion that an employee of the church may not serve on council.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 David Wein amended the motion to add that the spouse of an employee may serve on council, but may \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 not vote on matters of employment or wage in the area that pertains to their spouse.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 John Penza seconded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Approved
